Healthy Snacks for Your Teeth

If you’d like to enjoy a healthy smile, you probably understand that there are several things you’ll need to do. For example, you know that brushing and flossing are vital to the health of your teeth, but there are a few other things you should do. For example, following a nutritious, balanced diet is important.

As you may know, calcium is extremely important to your teeth and the rest of the bones in your body. Foods that are rich in calcium, such as milk and cheese, can protect your enamel, which is the protective layer of your teeth. Conversely, acidic foods and drinks can actually wash away minerals in your teeth, weakening your enamel.

Foods that contain phosphorus, such as chicken and other meats, can replace minerals that have been washed away. Nuts, such as almonds, peanuts, and cashews, can also help your teeth because they’re high in calcium and stimulate saliva production.

Following a healthy diet is also important for your children but it can be difficult to convince your kids to follow through with one. Fortunately, there are foods you may be able to convince your kids to eat. For example, you could try low-fat yogurt with berries, fresh watermelon, and crunchy vegetables with a dip, cheddar cheese and apples, and hummus with toasted pita triangles.
