Posted .

toothA recent report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has discovered that 91% of adult Americans have had cavities. What can you do to prevent them?

  1. Beware of Dry Mouth. Dry Mouth is often a side effect of medications, and it can make your more susceptible to cavities. Talk to your dentist about ways you can prevent or treat dry mouth.

  1. Brush your Teeth. You’ve heard it before, and you’ll hear it again! Always remember to brush your teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste.

  1. Floss. Just do it. Floss your teeth at least once a day.

  1. Eat Fruits and Vegetables. What you eat has a big impact on your oral health! By choosing healthier snacks and foods, you reduce the amounts of sugars and acid in your mouth, thus reducing your chances of developing cavities and tooth decay.

  1. Visit your Dentist for Regular Check-ups. It is vital that you make seeing your dentist for regular cleanings and exams a priority. By visiting your dentist at least twice a year, you not only prevent cavities and tooth decay, but you also allow your dentist the opportunity to detect and treat any problems before they become a serious, possibly more painful (and more expensive) issue.
